Safflower Oil: Used To Blast That Belly Fat
71
Will It Help Lose Belly Fat?
Background:
Safflower oil is colorless and tasteless and is similar to sunflower oil as far as nutrition goes. Safflower oil can improve the symptoms of coronary heart disease, Diabetes Mellitus type 2, lower high blood pressure and has helped improve arteriosclerosis. It is good as part of a hair regiment. However, since I have no hair I won't discuss that at all.
Safflower oil contains linoleic acid. That means it is a PUFA -- a polyunsaturated fatty acid. Research going back to the 1960s has told us that that these dietary oils from plant sources may prevent heart disease. But attention to these fats has declined as omega-3 fish oils have gained popularity among consumers. One cup of safflower oil has in it 74.3 milligrams of vitamin E, which is 372 percent of your daily requirement according to the USDA. It also has 31.2 g of Omega-6 fatty acids and contains no cholesterol
I didn't know anything about Safflower Oil at all until I was watching it being discussed on Dr. Oz one day. The topic of the show was about Belly Fat and what one can do to try and lose it. Well Dr. Oz had Montel Williams on his show discussing the Oil. Even though Montel said he was a paid endorser of the product he said he has been using it and said he saw great results with it. Then they talked about how you can by the supplement Saf-Slim (which taste like oranges and is taken 30 min before a meal) or use Safflower oil in salads or on foods. After Dr. oz and Montel discussed the weight loss benefits of safflower oil and how Montel at age 55 lost two inches of his waist; the panel discussed the science and research behind the oil and how the scientific research backed up the supplement claims. Montel also said he still exercised and ate a healthy diet. This like any other supplement is not a magic pill.
What made this episode of Dr. Oz interesting to me was that the panel all agreed that this was no magic solution to weight loss and yes Montel was a paid endorser. I found it refreshing that there was an acknowledgement of this on their part. Dr. Oz said trying to substitute oils that don't walk or have faces (animal fats) was a good way to go for overall health.
So according to the episode of Dr. Oz this supplement will help you lose weight with diet and exercise.
More Benefits Of Safflower Oil
Weight Loss:Even though this is an oil it is not the kind of oil that will make you gain weight (this is a misconception). It is an unsaturated oil and helps in weight loss and the lowering of glucose levels. In a 16 week study done at Ohio State subjects lost 3.2% bodyfat.Men did lose more weight because they have more muscle mass, which is your fat burning furnace. This was discussed on Dr. Oz as well. The Ohio State University researchers also speculated that safflower oil intake increases the production of the adiponectin hormone. This would have triggered more fat burning. They did not specify belly fat however. even though body fat is lost through out the body during weight loss one can only hope for extra fat loss around the Mid section.
Hair Care: When Massaged in the scalp blood flow to the roots is increased hence improving the appearance of ones hair.
Menstraul Cycle: Safflower oil can improve irregular periods increasing the shedding process in the uterus. It is not advised that a pregnant woman use safflower oil.
Rashes: Safflower oil is good for diaper rash and cracked nipples which can happen during nursing. It is a good alternative to petroleum jelly. You don't want jr. getting that in his system.
So in conclusion safflower oil has a lot of health benifits and the one most everyone would care about is Weight loss or belly fat loss. According to Dr. Oz it is favorable to help in weight loss but is not a magic bullet. You can eat junk and think this stuff will help you. I think I will try some when I get the chance. Gotta lose some holiday pounds anyway!
